The seventh day “Adua” of the late king of Gonjaland Yagbonwura Professor Tuntumba Boresa I has been preformed in Damongo, the Savannah Regional capital on Sunday, February 26, 2023.

In a welcome address by the Savannah Regional Minister Hon. Muhazu Jibril at the funeral grounds welcomed the chiefs and the good people of the Gonjaland who are the chief mourners of this occasion.

It gladdens my heart to see this large crowd from all parts of the country and beyond gathered here to mourn the demise of the Gonja king Yagbonwura professor Tuntumba Boresa ( I) we are indeed consoled, comforted reassured that we are not alone in our time in distress and great need.

I need not to say that the passing of our king is a great loss to the Savannah Region and the nation as a whole looking at the stature and contribution of the chieftaincy and development in general we are however encouraged by the presents support that we have seen here from near and far.

The officialdom traditional leaders and royalties, the security, the clergy the political parties, companies , business class and all individual sympathizers we say we are grateful to all.

This funeral is also an occasion to showcase the rich tradition and culture of the Gonja people therefore as I welcome you to this royal funeral I do so with full diversity that you will leave here with the memories that will forever stay in you.

He again said Mr President let me also reassured you and the country that the enskinment of the new Yagbonwura after this funeral is accordance with the Gonja tradition and to be done without any disturbances.

Speaking at the funeral grounds the President of the republic of Ghana His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo said I came to Damongo today to join you to express our final prayers, the seventh day “Adua” for the soul of the great king of the Gonjas Yagbonwura professor Tuntumba Boresa (I).

The President mentioned that he was a great chief not because he occupied one of the skins of our country, there are two things that are always tickle in my mind when I come to think of him ,the first is his contribution he made as one of the three eminent chiefs in the resolution of the crises in Dagbon it was the best thing for me when I became President to have this eminent chiefs in place to help me in the governance of our country and the history of our country will never forget his contribution and participation in that successful enterprise.

He again mentioned the role he played in leading the demand for the creation of the Savannah Region, it was his assistance that we have the referendum that the love of the people of Savannah expressed the preference and the choice and made it possible for me to sign the constitutional instrument that created the Savannah Region.

He will always be the founder of the Savannah Region so my presence here is to solidarise with the people of Damongo and the Gonja state of the passing of this great man.

May his soul rest in peace, he said.

The president also made a donation of 50 bags of rice, 5 bags of cassava, 5 bags of maize, a bull with a cash donation of One  hundred thousand Ghana cedis(100,000.00) 1 billion old currency.
