The Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, and Vice President of the National House of Chiefs Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, has celebrated his 18th annual Damba festival on 3rd October 2026 at Buipe.
The theme for this year’s BUDAFEST is “Promoting Peaceful Coexistence as a Path to Sustainable Development,”.
Speaking on behalf of Jira Buipewura Jinapor II at the durber grounds, Garba Jewuasewura Nyanchibre Panfia I noted that, Peace is the foundation upon which individuals, communities, nations, and institutions can build a prosperous and sustainable future.
“No society can achieve meaningful development in an atmosphere of persistent conflict, hatred, mistrust, and division”.
Where there is violence, schools are destroyed, businesses collapse, investments disappear, families are displaced, and opportunities for young people are lost and Conflict does not merely destroy buildings and infrastructure; it destroys confidence, relationships, dreams, and the prospects of future generations.
Peaceful coexistence must not be regarded as a luxury; it must be recognized as a necessity for sustainable development.
Buipewura Jinapor II also expressed worried about the recent canker that has bedeviled us as a society and that is drug abuse and its usage.
The youth are the strength, energy, and future of every nation and they are expected to become the leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators, and responsible citizens of tomorrow.
However, this future is increasingly being threatened by the growing misuse and abuse of drugs.
The Vice President of the National House of Chiefs noted that drug abuse can contribute to poor academic performance, school dropout, unemployment, family conflict, violence, crime, and other forms of social disorder. It can also undermine the physical and psychological well-being of young people and prevent them from reaching their full potential.

Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for Interior and the Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency, speaking as the special guest of honor noted that, a major expansion and re-equipment programme for Ghana’s security agencies, including 50 anti-ballistic cabins, 15 Military Forward Operating Bases and hundreds of vehicles to strengthen national security.

The Interior Minister added that the government had also secured 50 armoured vehicles for the Ghana Police Service, 20 for the Ghana Immigration Service and more than 300 pickup trucks for various security agencies over the past year and so the equipment would enable security personnel to protect lives and property and respond more effectively to threats.
On drug trafficking and substance abuse, the Asawase Constituency MP, disclosed that 95 suspects were in custody undergoing prosecution, and he also announced plans to establish a specialised court in Accra for narcotics-related cases to expedite prosecutions and prevent drug syndicates from using Ghana as a transit hub.
He urged communities to support proactive community policing and prevent illicit activities from taking root, citing community-driven security initiatives in Accra Zongo as an example of local participation in protecting young people and reducing crime.
