Yagbon Radio Manager Elected GIBA Coordinator.

The Manager of Yagbon radio in Bole of the Savannah Region, Mr. Ibrahim Wande Forgor, has been elected as the new Savannah Regional Coordinator of The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) at a meeting held at ASHCAL Hotel in Tamale on February 10, 2022.

Mr. Ibrahim contested the elections unopposed as Yagbon Radio is the only member of GIBA from the Savannah Region.

In his remarks, Mr. Ibrahim thanked the National Executives for the opportunity given to serve and expressed his disappointed and frastrustions as how Yagbon Radio has been the only member of GIBA for Savannah Region since curved out from the Northern Region.

He however assured that he will try all his possible best to pull the other Broadcasters in the Region to register and be members of GIBA.

“I promise to ensure that GIBA does not just survive but really exist in the Savannah Region. we can succeed as an Association in the Region when there is activeness and I will try as much possible to bring the rest of the Independent Broadcasters on board to be members of the Association to make GIBA greater and stronger”, Mr. Ibrahim said.

Reading the functions and powers of the Regional Coordinator and Deputy Regional coordinator, Mr. Prince Harry Crystal, Chairman of Legal, Regulatory and Ethics standing Committee, GIBA constitution article 16 (d) shall be to;.
(i) assist the Executive Council of GIBA.
(ii) articulate the interest of Regional members.
(iii) monitor the activities of the Regional members and document same.
(iv) draw the attention of the Regional Council or the legal regulatory and ethics standing committee to ethical breaches or issues concerning members which demand prompt action.
(v) formulate Regional policies and programs that shall conform to the general aims and objectives of GIBA.
(vi) submit quarterly report and statement of account to the Executive Council.
(vii) submit annual report and statement of account to the Regional General Meeting.
(viii) coordinate the activities with those of the Executive Council.
(ix) co-opt members or Resource persons to it meetings where required but such co-opt members shall have no power to vote.
(x) undertake any other functions as the Executive Council may direct.

He also tasked the Regional and Deputy Regional Coordinators to be abreast of the entire content of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association constitution.

The President of GIBA, Cecil Thomas Nee Lantey Sunkwa-Mills, in a speech said the growth of GIBA depends on the activiness of its Coordinators who will be able to mobilize resources for the execution of its functions appropriately.

He also reminded members of the association to remain objective and act professionally in the execution of their duties as he stressed that the public depends on them for information and hence must be mindful of what information is put out in the public domain.

Four other Regions, Northern, North-East, upper East and Upper West also elected their newly Regional Coordinators and Deputy Regional Coordinators to steer the affairs of GIBA in the respectives Regions.
