Women in Konkrompe, in the Sawla-Tuna- Kalba District of the Savannah Region are lamenting that successive governments have neglected the development of the area.
They complained about the lack of access to electricity, water, and healthcare.
Another major challenge they have been calling on the government to help address is the road network in the area.
Speaking to Yagbon News on the sidelines of their annual women association gathering, the women said their road becomes very muddy during the raining season and very dusty in the dry season.
According to them, when it rains, their road floods which make it difficult for others to drive and buy their farm produce from the residents who are predominantly farmers.
Access to education is also a challenge as the only school in the area is also lacking adequate teachers.
Madam Dari Sarah, President of the women association says government officials have on several occasions failed to fulfil promises of providing them with social amenities.
She says the people are frustrated following successive governments’ inability to address their concerns.
She told Yagbon News on April, 05, 2022, that the people have been considering boycotting future elections.
“Successive governments have not embarked on developmental projects in our community. We don’t get to benefit from voting for them, but we keep voting.
They always promise to provide various infrastructural projects and amenities but they don’t. We are considering boycotting elections.”
Yagbon News checks revealed that the situation is similar in neighbouring communities such as Nyange Soguooyiri, Sodiiteykoraa, all in the Nyange electroal area.
Farming is the major activity in the area, but the women say the poor nature of the road does not help to attract clients from other areas to buy their farm produce.
“Because of the poor nature of our road, we don’t get potential buyers. This makes our work very difficult,” Madam Dari Yaa vice president of the association revealed to Yagbon News.
According to Koonuu Sansah Charles, Secretary to the women association, life in the community has been very challenging for the people.
He says the residents hardly attain greater heights.
He says poverty in the area is endemic coupled with lack of basic social amenities.
The Assembly member for area, Mr. Datoor Kwabena Jacob, also in an interview with Yagbon News, appealed to the government to provide them with basic social amenities.
He particularly complained about the absence of health facility, water, and good road network.
The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District is one of the largest Districts in the Savannah Region in terms of land size. It has Sawla as its capital.
Yagbon News checks have revealed that communities in the District lack basic social amenities such as health, educational facilities and potable drinking water.
