Elections of Polling Station Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency in the Savannah Region were conducted in free, fair, credible and transparent process, the newly elected and selected polling stations executives, have insisted.
In a petition to the Regional minister, the party’s Regional Chairman and the DCE of the area, the newly elected executives stated that it has come to their attention that a group of aspirants for constituency executive positions have petitioned to discredit the recently compiled album and finally call for re-election.
Their strategy is to remove most elected polling station executives by using money to influence a new album compilation, they added.
According to them the petitioners, thus, constituency executives hopeful refused to monitor the election only to turn round and rubbish it.
Those who showed interest in the process can testify that it was free and fair election, they stressed.
In their weak and hollow petitions, they raised some issues which we want to state as a matter of public knowledge;
The group alleged that they could not get the album. As at the time they demanded a copy of the register, it was not completed because pasting of pictures on the results forms was ongoing, they stated.
They furthered that, a copy has been handed over to the Constituency Executive, Regional and National Secretariats of the New Patriot Party.
They argued that the petitioners intentionally lied on issues of distribution of forms. All old executives were given forms but some declined to continue as officers because of personal reasons.
All polling stations without election was as result of agreement among party members at such stations, they noted.
Why then will people sit at Sawla and force an election on people who had agreement not to go into an election?, they quizzed.
According to them their checks and reliable investigations show there are no election problems at some polling stations mentioned.
Soma and Disaburi have no issues as portrayed.
Yipala has threatened the committee never to set foot there. The committee agreed to maintain the old executives while the matter is resolved when tempers calm.
They maintained that, they shall not allow any group to try to use any method to discredit or change the new album for us.
“We were properly selected or elected to represent our polling stations. Why will some aspirants under the influence of Hon. Losina Barikisu (DCE) try to make our election illegal? We urge such aspirants to sell their message to the delegates and stop this divisive tendencies”, they added.
“They must be reminded that they have no right to select polling station executives as they are thinking We shall resist any attempt to undermine our right as the grassroots base of the party”, the newly elected and selected polling stations added.
Background.
Some twelve persons who are vying for various constituency executives positions in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba of the Savannah Region, had earlier petitioned the leadership of the Savannah Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP), over what they claim is an attempt to alter the constituency’s album ahead of the party’s constituency executives elections.
They have asked leadership in the region to ensure that the “sanctity of the constituency album is preserved” and pointed out that it would be advisable for the party to “act swiftly to help stem the current uneasiness that was beginning to sweep through the constituency”.
They alleged that attempt to get the results of the just ended recently held polling stations elections exhibited has proved futile.
