Stakeholders have been called upon to help dispel misconceptions impeding the implementation of the Girl’s Iron-Folate Tablets Supplementation (GIFTS) Programme in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.
The District Director of the Ghana Health Services for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Mr Alhassan Abukari said adolescents in the District really needs folic supplement to boost their energy levels.
He made this known during a stakeholders meeting on Girl Iron Folic acid Tablets supplement (GIFTS) Program in the District.
In a welcome address he said the main reason for the engagement is to solicit for Ideas among stakeholders on the way forward to avert the current challenges confronting the exercise.
He said the iron folic is a highly nutritional supplement which should be given to our the girl child to assist their body function effectively.
Speaking on statistics performance of the District, the District Director said in 2019 out of a target of 4,634 they were able to administer 4,754 representing 102.6℅.
In 2020 out of a target of 4,715 they did only 1,478(31.3℅) which they attributed to COVID. But in 2021 out of 4,809 they did 3,974(82.6℅) for in schools .
But for the community level he said they are currently at 98.8℅
He encouraged stakeholders to support the program to a success for the donor partners to be part of it and continue to support.
Stakeholders laid their challenges which he was grateful and urged to see improvement moving forward.
Mr Alhassan also urged the citizenry to the take the COVID-19 Vaccination serious and get vaccinated.
He said very soon you will not be allowed access to some facilities without a vaccination card.
He added that the District was also hit with the out break of Yellow Fever and encourage all to get vaccinated.
