A Chief of Gonjaland, Gbenapewura, the head of the Bugbonpo in the Wasipe Traditional Area has indicated elections of members of the Council of State in Ghana is not partisan and should never be seen as such.
He made this on Monday 8th February, 2021, on Yagbon Radio morning show with Diwura Abdul Fataw.
Gbenapewura Sago Sung-Bore I who control huge land area of villages and people and as well a free lance writer on Agric explained that, the Council of State is an advisory body at the Central Government to the President who legitimizes decisions of the President.
Two people from every Region will be represented. One appointed by the President and another by election, he said.
He also explained that election of Council State member is by electoral college where every District within the Region selects two Assembly members to elect a representative.
He said the Regional representative is the person representing all the people in the Region to advise the President on National issues.
The Council of State in Ghana is a small body of prominent citizens, which advises the President on national issues.
Its membership, according to the Fourth Republican Constitution should include a former Chief Justice of Ghana, a former Chief of Defence Staff and a former Inspector General of Police.
In the Savannah Region three candidates have filed their nominations to contest the election of the Member of Council of State position.
They include Alhaji Adam Zakariah, Alhaji Lepowura MND Jawula, and Mr Mohammed Adam Abdul.
