A section of Assembly Members in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region has petitioned the Regional Electoral Commission to reject any representives from the District who are to form the electoral college set to participate in the elections of the Council of State members slated to take place on Friday, February 12, 2021.
According to a statement released by the aggrieved Assembly Members the DCE acted in contradiction to Article 89(2c) of the 1992 constitution where Assembly Members from each District are to meet and nominate two of their members to form the regional electoral college but all efforts to get the DCE for a meeting to be conveyed to elect the two delegates proved futile.
They argued that the behaviour of the District Chief Executive indicates that he has submitted names of his favourites oblivious to Article 89(2c ) of the 1992 constitution and hence urged the Electoral Commission not to accept any list of delegates from the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District for the elections because due process was not followed.
