Honourable Andrew Dari Chiwitey, Member of Parliament for the Sawla- Tuna-Kalba constituency, has donated ten LED street lights to Tuna Senior High Technical School to enhance security at the school and its environs.
Tuna Senior High Technical School, located at Tuna, the first Senior High School in the area had been without street lights which posed a threat to the security of students and teachers.
The deputy ranking member of Parliament’s select committee on Works and Housing, made the donation, when he visited the school to familiarise himself with the teachers and students to get first-hand information on the issues affecting them.
According to the MP, the initiative has brought relief to students since they could now afford to move about freely at night without the fear of heinous crimes.
He said the mission of the school was to among other things, train and nature its students to help in national development, adding that it could only be achieved if students had sound studies in a secured environment; hence the gesture.
Addressing the students, the MP challenged them to take their studies seriously in their quest to become useful to themselves, their families and the nation at large.
He urged the students to eschew laziness, indiscipline and embrace the tenets of obedience, respect, studiousness and Godliness at all times as future leaders of Ghana.
These, according to him, are the only panacea to enable them achieve their life goals .
He said it was important for the students to take their eyes off the obstacles and perceptions and attempt to break new grounds so they could make their parents proud and impact society .
Hon. Andrew, using himself as an example, said he defied all odds at Bole Senior High School which was without electricity and water to get a university education to become a legislator, adding that it was all about determination and commitment to one’s passion.
He charged the young ones to aspire for the best and not permit anything, negative, to derail them from their path to greatness.
He encouraged them to take their studies seriously. He made them know that it is not about the school you go, but rather, your individual determination to succeed in life.
Reacting to the challenges as presented by the head of the school, MP on his part asked Jamas company to assess the water challenges and revert appropriately for intervention.
On the uncompleted Getfund projects, the MP said he will make a follow up with the ministry of education for redress.
On indiscipline, the MP said it is all over the country. We can encourage the management to organise role models like the board chair and other influential personalities to talk to them whilst they work around for a fence wall for the school.
“I have a question filed for the minister for education on the acute shortage of basic teachers in the constituency, he however asked management to submit the specific staffing needs of the school for him to discuss with authorities that matter”, he added.
