The ministry of Communication and Digitalization has launched girls in ICT project in the capital of Savannah Region, Damongo, under the theme digital skills for life.
There will be a five days training of trainees workshop for hundred ICT teachers for a target of 1000 girls in the Savannah Region.
Addressing participants on Tuesday 11th April 2023, the Savannah Regional Minister Hon Saeed Muazu Jibril, expressed his gratitude to the team from the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization for the kind gesture.
He said the Region has being in good news in education sector and this will offer an opportunity to improve the educational standards.
He said this has prompt the Region to spend 40% of its common fund on education and its related activities.
He said India has invested in ICT and are reaping the benefits today.
The Director in-charge of monitoring and evaluation Mr Emmanuel Ofori, speaking on behalf of the Minister for communication, said ICT is a critical part of our educational curriculum but unfortunately it is male dominated which has necessitated the implementation of this project.
He said we are in the digital age and that you have to join or else you would be left behind.
Priscilla Hope, who works with Kofi Annan Center Technological Excellence encouraged the trainers to take the training serious to yield the desired results.
She explained that all thousand girls will get laptop computers with best ten student to be awarded in each District while the best teachers will be awarded with laptop computers.
Mr iddisah Seidu, the Regional Human Resources Director for Ghana Education Services said the project is very dear to GES in the Region and all seriousness would be attached to it.
He said they will monitor the project to see the progress of it to the end.
A staff of Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication, Zulaiha Yakubu said the project is to give equal opportunities to girls to learn ICT.
She said GIFEC is providing computer Labs for schools and telephone network to hard reached communities for equal access to mobile network.
After the training the teachers are to Organise training for the students in two phases one in April and second phase in May.
