A ROCHA Ghana, in partnership with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has organised a sensitization workshop on one’s health at the Regional capital, Damongo.
This is the second phase of the Project Dubbed : Protected Area (PA) Categories V and VI as a landscape mechanism for enhancing biodiversity in agricultural land and ecological connectivity.
The phase two focusses on link between one’s health, landscape and approach to improve biodiversity conservation.
The workshop brought together Forestry department, environmental health, partner NGO’S, community members, media among others
Addressing the media the Savannah Regional Director Dr Chrysanto Kubio said one health is critical area that has to do with the various component of health including animals, human, and environmental health.
He said each component must be healthy to keep the other component which for that matter called for collaboration between the sectors in charge of the various componentry to work together.
He suggested that all these come with commitment and funding and that any short fall of this we will continue to have the challenges.
Mr Dokurgu Andrew, a Lead Coordinator of NORTHCODE said collaboration is the challenging part of to see a one health environment.
He said it is always easy at the policy level but challenging at the implementation level adding that especially at the leadership level.
He is of the view that sensitization is very important key so that the lines will be drawn for partners to know their roles and benefits.
Mr Anthony Adeea Amba project coordinator for IUCN, a partner NGO of the project said they want seek justice for all living things he said that is where their motivation comes from.
He said landscape has a lot of resources and their responsibility is to conserve this resources on the landscape for now and the future.
He said one’s health is a new concept but the stakeholders in the various are working in isolation so the workshop is to bring them together to achieve one health target.
Isaac kofi Ntori, a project coordinator of A Rocha Ghana said they need to protect natural resources to benefit human.
He said humans feed on trees and animals so why should the society limit health to humans alone.
He said Savannah is in mainly an ecological area with a lot of wild species which is the largest wildlife protected area in Ghana quizzing that how can we ensure that these animals are not infected with disease so that when hunters kill them for consumption we humans are not infected.
