The Gonjaland Youth Association has held its 47th Annual Congress in Kpembe in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region on the theme; “promoting peaceful co-existance and investment opportunities for socio economic development in Gonjaland” the Role of the youth”
In a welcome address, the President of the Kpembe Traditional Council Kpembewura Babange I welcomed every one to Kpembe Traditional area for the important annual celebration.
The paramount chief expressed his delight over the theme adding that with over twenty tribal group in the Region we have worked together in a peaceful co-existance.
Despite all the resource in Gonjaland, the people live in abject poverty as it has not received the needed investment, kpembewura lamented.
The Paramount Chief announced an interest by Jospong Group to invest in Katanga forest in rice production.
Addressing the Chiefs and people of Gonjaland in the Congress The Former President of the Republic Ghana H E John Dramani said 47 years of celebration is an achievement that cannot be over emphasised.
The special Guest of honor re-echoed his satisfaction over the time tested tradition that elected Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jawu Soale I in his peaceful succession as king of Gonjaland
The aspiring presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress applauded the leadership of Gonjaland Youth Association for organizing such an important occasion.
The Former President said the theme for the occasion helps to reflect on the prospect of resources in Gonjaland.
He said the Region has a lot of resources but its investment and development of hindered by poor road network in the Region adding the very situation was the reason behind sawla fufulso road but said is unfortunate the east of Gonjaland has deplorable road networks.
He promised to priotized roads in the Northern and Eastern part of Gonja when his party wins power.
He mentioned lime stone, gold, diamond, Ore among other resources in the area but said water is a big challenge in the Region.
He said despite funding secured for water project in Damongo he is surprised the project hasn’t seen the light of day.
He called on the tribes to see our divesity as our strength and use the opportunity to attract development in the region adding that the youth should use dialogue to settle land disputes within them.
The President of the Gonjaland Youth Amin Osman Mohammed Esq, said they have discussed developmental issues among stakeholders as in review of the Gonja constitution, settling of land disputes, educational standards, Jakpa palace construction both in Nyange and Damongo among others will be project to consider in the ensuing year .
He said there is ongoing talks to reunite the Guan community.
He said peace and security is a priority of the association in Gonjaland but happy to announced collaboration with with government security structures in Savannah Region to maintain peace and security.
He expressed worry about Wasipewura and lukula and Tolon stating among others the reason to form a committee to support the Gonja Traditional Council to establish a credible register for Gonjaland.
