Sonyowura Kanyiti on behalf of Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jewu l King and Overlord of Gonja Kingdom has visited Doli to witness the extent of damage caused to the bridge as a result of Sunday heavy downpour.
Addressing the chiefs and people of the entire Gonjaland Sonyowura Kanyiti pleaded with the government to as a matter of urgency rebuild the bridge for easy accessibility.
Sonyowura said the situation has led to lost of family relation among the people of Gonja and beyond adding that business activities is in stand still as citizens cannot access some commodities.
But addressing the media on behalf of Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jewu soale I ,a Senior Registrar of the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs, Mohammed Abdulai expressed gratitude to the MP for Bole, the Roads Minister the two DCE’s for Bole and Sawla District for their swift response when the incident happened .
Yagbonwura said the road links Ghana through Burkina Faso to neighboring countries in West Africa.
Explaining that the cut- off of this vital road will not only be inconvenient to the local people but affect international trade as well.
The Yagbonwura said he priotises the reconstruction of the culvert to restore the integrity of the stretch and hence pleaded with the minister of roads to as a matter of urgency reconstruct the culvert to restore it activities to normalcy.
He pleaded with the sector minister for that matter the government to join hands to to alleviate the suffering of the people to ensure smooth flow of goods and services for the development of Ghana.
The King also called on the government to reconsider the bad nature of Bamboi -Wa road and find necessary resources to put it into shape.
The king called on drivers to consider the plight of the people in this trying moment not to charge exorbitant prices both in and outside the region.
He however said his thoughts and prayers remained with those who have been greatly affected by this disaster and we are all in this together and we shall overcome.
In the early hours of Sunday 17th September 2023, the Doli bridge on the N12 Road between Bole and Sawla was washed out as result of torrential downpour.
