The President of the Republic of Ghana HE Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo on July 29, 2020, has cut sod for the construction of a water treatment plant to supply portable water for Damongo and it surrounding communities in the Savannah Region.
The projected if completed is expected to supply 9,000kbm volume of water to communities like Laribanga and adjoining communities, Damongo, Busunu and it adjoining communities.
In a welcome address by the vice President of the Gonja Traditional Council Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor ll said it was refreshing to state that no President has ever visited the newly carved Region up to seven times in four years.
But Nana has been able to do so. So he thinks the President is staying together with them in the newly created Savannah Region .
Jira Jinapor said the entire kingdom is very grateful to the President for this long awaiting project and however gave him his blessing as we go into another historic elections come December 7, 2020.
He said it is worth noting that the chiefteincy issues in the Region are gradually declining as the Sonyo and Bole chieftaincy impasse has been resolved.
In his address to the chiefs and people of Damongo, His excellency the President of Ghana Nana Addo said he is happy today that the slogan “inchu munta” is now a thing of the past.
He reiterated that a “brother far away can be a better brother than the one from your village”.
He said the project when completed will eradicate the suffering of the people of Damongo especially Busunu where John Mahama mother’s comes from.
He however called on the people to renew his mandate to witness more developmental projects.
The President said the construction of Damongo – Buipe road is about to commence as all processes are completed for the commencement of the project.
The President at the ceremony condemned the lynching Akua Dente at kafaba, a community in the East Gonja District for allegedly tagged as a witch and called on the security to bring the perpetrators to book.
