The Gonjaland Youth Association has held its 48th Annual Congress in Damongo the Savannah Regional Capital on Saturday 27th April 2024.

Speaking at the Congress, the President of the GLYA Alhaji Amin Osman, mentioned that as part of their efforts to safeguard and defend Gonjaland, the Association constituted a Land Disputes Research Team to identify the challenges confronting the various traditional
authorities in respect of the land tenure system across Gonjaland, and
to recommend possible solutions to that effect.

He added that the Association will, therefore, soon submit a statement on the issues related to land disputes in Gonjaland to the Gonja Traditional Council for consideration and so I am also glad to state that, the Association is
providing support to the Gonja Traditional Council to: Establish a credible land register; Promote the progressive demarcation of all traditional areas and
customary land boundaries; and
Develop a framework for land use in Gonjaland.

Lawyer Amin Osman added that the Association has initiated the process of reviewing the 1930 Constitution of the Gonja Kingdom under the guidance and
mentorship of the Gonja Traditional Council, and so the review process is
ongoing with all traditional areas already working on their inputs to be
submitted to the Committee.

He also uses the opportunity to commend the gallant members of the Constitution Review Committee made up of Garba Danyanpewura, Garba Tingawura, Garba Bingowura, Prof.
Elliot, Prof. Achanso, Alhaji Dr. Lawyer Inua and Lawyer Be-Awuribe.

The President of GLYA mentioned their achievement as an association said through our collective efforts and sense of dedication, the Association
last year secured twenty (20) mechanized boreholes for some
communities in Savannah Region.

It is worth noting that the West
Gonja Municipality alone got six (6) of the boreholes.

Again on Education, the Association has
made several efforts aimed at getting a College of Education in Gonjaland, and through the efforts of one of our own members, Dr. Musah Ekpampo, we currently have Savannah College of Education at Daboya in the North Gonja District.

This could not be possible without the support of another illustrious son
of Gonjaland, Prof Ahmed Jinapor.

It our expectations that all sons
and daughters of Gonjaland and Guan origin will support this course he stated.

Lawyer Amin Osman finally caution that, 7th December, 2024 is fast approaching, and we shall be called upon to exercise our civic duty in line with the provisions of the 1992 Constitution.

We shall have the opportunity to elect our
President and respective MPs of our choice “I, therefore, wish to entreat the membership of the Association to
exercise this civil right with decorum and absolute respect for the rights
of individuals to make their own informed decisions he said.

The theme for this year’s Gonjaland Youth Congress is “Celebrating our culture and Tradition through Unity for
rapid Socio Economic Development in Gonjaland”.

The Former President, John Dramani Mahama delivering a speech at the Congress stated that Damongo being the capital is starved with Water and during the dry season the situation becomes very dire and people have to travel long distance to be able to get portable Water.

The Former President noted that before he left office he secured a loan of to draw Water from the Black Volta at Buipe to supply Damongo and fortunately the funding laps because the new government decided to join the Damongo Water to other Tamale Water project and rather bring that from the Yapei.

John Mahama said unfortunately with barley seven Months to Elections to the end of the term of the current NPP administration so it is quite obvious that the possibility to provide the people of Damongo with clean drinking Water will come from your own John Dramani Mahama.

The Flag Bearer of NDC promised the good people of Savannah Region to established University and other Infrastructure projects in Gonjaland.
