Hon.Mahama Zakaria, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been elected the party’s new Sawla -Tuna- Kalba Constituency Chairman.
He defeated incumbent Alhaji Osman Salia, in the constituency’s executive elections held on Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Zakaria secured 510 votes against Salia’s 507, according to the results provided in a contest that has ushered in a new leadership team to steer the party’s affairs in the constituency.
Following his victory, the newly elected chairman pledged to unite the party’s leadership, energise the grassroots and strengthen internal cooperation as the NDC prepares for the 2028 general elections.
In an interview with Yagbon radio on Sunday, October 25 , after the electoral process, Zakaria said unity had been the central message of his campaign and expressed confidence that a united constituency would be better positioned to further diminish the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the next general elections.
“Unity is the key. That was my campaign message, and the delegates have responded accordingly,” he stated.
He further assured party members that his administration would prioritise collective effort, hard work and grassroots mobilisation, with the objective of making Sawla -Tuna- Kalba a competitive battleground in 2028.
Zakaria will work with a newly elected constituency executive team comprising Abubakari Farouk as Vice Chairman; Sansah Reuben Konchiirtey as Secretary; and Sei Charles as Deputy Secretary.
Other elected officers include Nujaal Joseph as Organiser, Yane Moses as Deputy Organiser, Kipo Isaac as Youth Organiser and Anboon Emmanuel as Deputy Youth Organiser.
Agnes Naawmendoo was elected Women Organiser, with Umu- Hani Saaka serving as Deputy Women Organiser.
Hussein Alhassan ,will coordinate the Zongo Caucus, while Kulah Raphael and Balara Peter will serve as Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer, respectively.

Kontinatey Isaac was elected Communication Officer, with Mahamadu Adams as Deputy Communication Officer.
The wider executive structure also includes eight additional members and other youth organisers, according to the information provided.
Zakaria’s election places renewed attention on the NDC’s organisational strategy in Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, where the party faces the task of consolidating its grassroots base, resolving internal differences and building a coordinated campaign ahead of the next general elections.
His pledge for unity will be particularly significant as the new administration seeks to bring together supporters of the various candidates following the competitive internal contest.
The coming months will test the new leadership’s ability to translate its campaign promises into practical party organisation, stronger branch-level engagement, and sustained mobilisation.
For Zakaria, the immediate challenge is to unite the constituency behind a common agenda while working with the newly elected executives to pursue the party.
