Member of Parliament for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, has charged Road Minister, Hon. Amoako Atta to be fair with his constituents; and give them some hope about dilapidated the Tuna-Kalba road.
The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba lawmaker was heartbroken why that road remains deplorable up to date, even though he has personally tried all means since Ghana’s seventh (7th) Parliament, to draw the sector minister’s attention to it.
He bombarded Mr Amoako Atta with hard questions at the Public Hearing of Committee on Government Assurances last Tuesday, August 30 2022, when the minister made a presentation on Road.
According to him same issue of concerns was raised in 2017 when the road minister assured the people of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba of better roads.
“Hon. Minister I remember on October 27, 2017, I asked you a question on the same road. And you convinced me that by the end of the First quarter of 2018, those roads were going to be fixed.
” We transited from the 7th Parliament to the 8th Parliament; same question was asked and you still gave assurances. But till date the road is not fixed.
“Is it because our road is not part of your prioritized projects?” Hon. Chiwitey questioned.
He lamented the road was bad that the next 15 minutes of rainfall in the area will prevent the people from accessing the District and regional capitals.
The MP added the people shall be denied of health care because of poor road network in the area.
He quizzed, “Are your answers telling me to tell my people we should perish because the government does not have enough resources?”
Background of the Tuna-Kalba Road.
Contractors on the 20-kilometre Tuna- Kalba road have abandoned the road since 2017 and a recent downpour has rendered it unmotorable.
In 2016, it was awarded to Messrs Logistics Support Services Ltd under the road fund.
But nothing has been seen of the contractor since 2017 leaving the road to deteriorate over the period.
The road does not only lead to the second-biggest market in the District but also serves as the only route of several communities to Sawla the District capital.
It also links the District to Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Wechiau in the Upper West Region.
