A 12-hour downpour on Tuesday and Wednesday morning has cut off some communities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region from the District’s capital, Sawla.
The rain submerged a small local bridge constructed by the residents to link major communities to Nyoli.
“Our local bridge, had been submerged in the flood, leaving residents with no option than to stay home, Mr Alfred a resident said.
Speaking to the Yagbon News about the situation, Mr Alfred, a resident of Gbulpie said the incident had restricted movement of residents as the water level at the affected area was still high.
He explained that some of them were, for instance, supposed to go to Sawla for their NHIS registration and other individual engagements but were scared to ply the road due to the floods.
“As it stands now, not even a motorking can maneuvere its way through” he said.
Mr Alfred mentioned that communities like Gbulpie, Lasitee, Korkorme, Sansatee, Konjantee and Seigurtee had been completely cut off by the perennial problem and called on government to help find a lasting solution to the flooding issue.
“We are fortunate that schools are on vacation and the children are home, other than that they would have been forced to stay out of school but we are hoping there will not be another rain this week to prevent disasters,” he said.
He also mentioned that the only CHPs compound at Goyiri is currently not accessible by the affected communities due to the bad nature of their roads.
He therefore called on the District Assembly to put in emergency measures to enable the residents have access to their market centre at Nyoli.
