National Peace Council Trains Journalist To Counter Hate Speech and Promote Peace In Savannah Region.

The National Peace Council in partnership with Catholic Relief Services has organized a two days capacity building for journalists in Damongo.

Speaking at the workshop,  the Deputy Director in charge of Conflict Management at the National Peace Council, Mr. Frank Wilson Bodza, mentioned that National Peace Council is to promote peace within the country and this is one of the means to helping all of us in Ghana to use the medium to promote peace during this upcoming elections.

Mr Frank added that the capacity building is under a project known as “Preventing Violence Extremist Through Social Accountability (PoVETSA) in partnership with the Catholic Relief Services with sponsorship from the Royal Netherlands Government and it is a three year project.

The Deputy Director in charge of Conflict Management at the National Peace Council, emphasized that the main objective of this project is to ensure that they work to prevent any security threat to the country and to also sustain the peace of Ghana.

” In doing so we have come to the Savannah Region to undertake training for 35 journalist with the intention that we will focus in preventing Hate Speach, Misinformation, Disinformation and Misinformation”.

The purpose of the engagement is to train media institutions on conflict sensitive reporting before, during and after 2024 elections.

Mr. Frank also charged journalists in the region to adopt conflict-sensitive reporting practices.
