Yagbonwura condemns the lynching of 90 year old woman at Kafaba.

The King and overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbon wura Tuntumba Bore Essa ( l) has in no uncertain terms condemned the lynching of a 90 year old woman at Kafaba, a community in the East Gonja municipality of the Savannah Region.

Madam Akua Denteh, was allegedly murdered at Kafaba on the basis of being a witch which was prophesied by one self styled priestess Hajia Filina.

A statement issued and signed by the Gonja Traditional council condemned the barbaric act of violence which they said was perpetrated at the blind side of the traditional authority.

The statement, signed by the registrar of the council, Kapori Abutu, said the news of the alleged brutal killing of one of its subjects by some individuals who allegedly accused her of being a witch was received with shock by the Traditional Council.

The Overlord of Gonja in the statement called on the security agencies to as a matter of urgency bring the perpetrators to book to serve as a deterrent to others.

The statement urges all subjects in the Gonja Kingdom to desist from this barbaric behavior and allow the customary law and the laws of of Ghana to work in resolving such challenges to avoid violence.

In a related development the Inspector General of Police ( IGP), Mr. James Oppong Boanuh has on yesterday, 25th July, 2020, announced a two thousand Ghana cedis booty on the killers of the late Akua Denteh.

A statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Mrs. Sheila Kessie Abayie Buckman, indicates that homicide experts from the National Headquarters have been dispatched to Kafaba to assist in finding the perpetrators of the crime.

The statement mentions one Sanjo, as a suspect who is said to have hosted Hajia Filina, a priestess who declared the deceased a witch.

Others are the priestess Hajia Filina, one teacher Aliu, Bumaye, Ashly and Manfo who have since fled the the community.

“Any person with credible information that could lead to their arrest should contact police in Savannah Region or call police free toll on 18555 or 122 or on mobile phone numbers 0550323323/0275000156 or WhatsApp on 0206639121”, the statement added.

The Police statement added that, the police administration condemns mob justice in any form and assures the public that it fish out perpetrators of this heinous crime.
