The Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yagbon wura Tuntumba Bore- Esa l, has celebrated this year’s Damba at Damongo on Saturday, October 15, 2022.
In a welcome address read by the secretary Abutu Kapori on behalf of the King said, Damba Festival in the Gonja Kingdom is singled out as one of the most significant traditional festivals celebrated in the Gonja Kingdom.
Again it is revered and held in high esteem by the people of the Kingdom and epitomizes the beautiful culture and tradition of the Kingdom.
This great festival is celebrated to commemorate the splendid birth of the prophet Mohammed through whom Islam was propagated to the world.
The theme for this year Damba festival is “Preserving Our Cultural Heritage Through Social Cohesion; The Role of Chiefs and Citizens of Savannah”.
The Yagbonwura also mentioned that there is every indication of strong social cohesion and human relationship building in the Savannah Region.
The forward march of the infant Savannah Region will remain untold history of the social cohesion if not strengthened, so I therefore for call on the Chieftaincy institution, politicians various Youths Associations and Civil Society Organization to collaborate and create a seen environment for absolute peace to prevail.
“Again every citizen of Savannah Region need to be commended for contributing in maintaining peace in the Region more especially the Eminent Chief Committee, and I admonished that the efforts must still continue”, he noted.
Touching on Education the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
But am sad to say that the leadership of Savannah Region is not happy about the abysmal performance recorded few years ago in the Savannah Region.
Education has become a nightmare to every parent in the region, so therefore is a Wake up call to every stakeholder in the Region to collectively contribute our quotas towards building the lost glories of education in the Region he said.
Speaking at the Durbur grounds, the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Muazu Jibril said it been a long time that we have witness such an organization particularly the participation of the various Paramountcy across the Savannah Region that tells you that gradually Gonjaland is smoking the piece pipe and togetherness.
Hon. Muazu Jibril also added that the five Eminent Chiefs that have been carefully selected under the auspices the Yagbonwura I know very soon all Chieftaincy disputes and for that matter lands disputes within the Gonja Kingdom will be a thing of the past.
The Regional Minister also called for peace and unity among citizens in the Region.
He used the opportunity to call for more investors as the environment is business friendly.
In attendance were Chiefs and Queen Mothers, political head’s, sons and daughters from Gonjaland.
