The Ministry for Finance and Trade and Industry under the Government of Ghana has organized stakeholders meeting for Small and Medium Enterprises Growth and Opportunities programme (SME GO).
The programme is being implemented by Development Bank Ghana(DBG), Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) and Ghana Export Import Bank(EXIM BANK).
The program dubbed breaking barriers to SME growth is taking place in all the 16 regions of Ghana .
Savannah Region is the second to Greater to the climax of the program.
The program seeks to equip SME the various opportunities to access funds and capacity building through the Government of Ghana.
In a welcome address the Chief Director of the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council ,Mr Ebenezer Amoah welcomed the official to Savannah Region and said SME has contributed immensely to Ghana’s economy growth.
inspite of SMEs’ contribution, they are constrained by access to credit and markets.
He said in view of the critical role that SMEs play in Ghana’s development, the Government of Ghana through H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo is providing the necessary resource support to the sector to improve capacity and productivity.
One of the numerous government initiatives to sustain private businesses he said is the SME Growth and Opportunity Programme (SME GO) ,which provides financial and technical support to SMEs with growth potential in order to spur growth in the sector.
The Chief Director said he anticipates that Ghanaian small and medium-sized businesses, particularly those in the Savannah Region, would seize this golden opportunity to optimize the program’s benefits.
He called on SMEs in Savannah region to be early adopters and not laggards who would want to wait to see others grow before coming on board.
He admonished them to grab this opportunity to grow their business into big companies by asking more questions for clarity and guidance.
He ended by encouraging the business community in the region to apply for the program by visiting the registration and application page.
The Chief Director appealed to the implementing institutions to provide the necessary support services so that as many SMEs as possible can access this crucial initiative.
Various representatives of the implementing agency held power point presentation on the various opportunities in their various agencies for the SME’s.
