
Sawla–Tuna–Kalba (STK) District has emerged as the overall champion of the 5th Savannah Regional Basic Schools Sports Festival 2026, following a remarkable display of sporting excellence across games, athletics and cross-country events.
STK topped the regional medal table with an impressive 17 gold medals, while also recording strong performances in the silver and bronze categories to finish as the best-performing district at the festival.
The district secured gold medals in Girls’ Soccer and Boys’ Handball, while earning silver in Girls’ Volleyball, Girls’ Netball, Boys’ Table Tennis and Girls’ Table Tennis. STK also claimed bronze medals in Girls’ Handball and Boys’ Volleyball.
The district’s dominance extended beyond the field and court, with athletes producing outstanding results in athletics and cross-country events. These performances highlighted the depth of sporting talent being nurtured in schools across the district.

STK’s success has also translated into significant representation at the national level. About 45 athletes and officials from the district have been selected to form part of the Savannah Regional Team that will represent the region at the National Basic Schools Sports Festival in Accra, scheduled for 25th August to 4th September 2026.
Speaking after the festival, the District Sports Coordinator, Alhassan Abdul-Rahman, commended the athletes, coaches, teachers, school heads, officials and other stakeholders for their dedication, teamwork and support throughout the competition.
The achievement further strengthens STK District’s reputation as one of the leading districts in sports development and talent identification in the Savannah Region.
With 17 gold medals, a strong medal haul and about 45 representatives on the Savannah Regional Team, STK District has once again demonstrated its sporting strength and determination to develop young talents.
