Madam Losina Barikisu, the nominated District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba of the Savannah o Region, has been endorsed by the assembly members.
The nominee had 43 out of 47 of the total votes cast, a figure that represented 91.49 per cent of the valid votes in an election conducted by the District Electoral Commission.
4 assembly members, representing 8.51 per cent, however, voted against the nominee.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs Losina Barikisu expressed gratitude to the almighty God for the historic day and the president for reposing the confidence in her.
She also thanked the presiding member, assembly members, chief, The district coordinating director and his entire team and the regional minister and his team for their presence leading to her her confirmation.
She promised to up hold her government core values transparency and accountability, adding she will create an enabling environment to propel the socioeconomic development agenda of the area.
She said her main priority will focus on increase in infrastructure and private sector development in the district.
Hon Muazu Jibril, the Savannah regional minster however express his excitement over the attitude of the assembly members for voting massively for the president’s nominee.
According him development of the region is his priority and said he will make sure every Member of Parliament received his resources to do their work irrespective where he is coming from.
He said despite one being NDC and NPP but we need to work together to develop our region because that is where we from.
The Member of Parliament for Sawla- Tuna- Kalba constituency, Hon Dari Chiwitey Andrew who witnessed the exercise bemoaned that the district is under developed.
He underscored the need for stake holders to do more because the people are living in abject poverty.
He however cautioned the assembly to take the statement of the Regional minister serious adding that he doesn’t want to come here for those resources where he will be delayed as those resources are for schools,health care, poverty reduction, education among others.
The Presiding Member, Mr Ollo Benjamin, in a welcome address called on his colleagues to consider the district first in the whole process as love leads every process of development.
All confirmed MDCEs in Savannah Region would be sworn into office on Thursday, 7, October 2021, at the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council in Damongo.
