The Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Select Committee on Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey has hit hard at the Akufo-Addo- Bawumia led administration for failing to construct a single borehole in the Savannah region after five years in office.
The MP addressing the press at Parliament said that the Akufo-Addo led government has failed woefully in the delivery of water infrastructure after promising Ghanians of water in the run up to the 2016 general elections.
According to the MP ,Dr Bawumia then vice presidential candidate in 2016 promised to deliver water and toilet facilities to every community in the country in the first two years of the NPP administration.
Dr. Bawumia said on a campaign platform in the run-up to the 2016 elections that “in the first two years of an NPP administration under this Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme where every constituency will get $1 million for rural and deprived communities, there should be no village or community in Ghana after the first two years that would have a water or toilet problem.”
But after five years in government, the MP said, that the promise has not been achieved.
According to him the NPP only put up 16 boreholes in the Northern region and those boreholes were done in three communities. while constructing 22 boreholes in the Bono-East Region.
He added that in Ahafo they did in only four constituencies, and the list goes on.
“In the Volta Region, they did only three boreholes for the five years in government. Let’s praise them for doing three in Volta Region. Come to North East Region, five good years in office, where the Vice President comes from, they did zero boreholes. Not a single borehole. Not a single water system,” he stated.
According to the two term legislator he had constructed over 40 boreholes in five years in office with the NPP having none to show in his constituency and the Savannah region at large.
The MP lauded the efforts of some NGO’s in providing water for the citizens and in the case of his constituency he praised Global Communities for the support and said that the NGO’S are doing better than the NPP government in the area of water delivery.
He therefore demanded that vice president Bawumia need to account to Ghanaians on the promise he made while in opposition in 2016.
