Bole District emerged victorious in the maiden inter – district cross country athletics competition organised by Savannah Regional Athletics Association (SRAA) in collaboration with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council to which took place in Damango on Saturday 11th December, 2021 for both boys and girls.
The event was to enable organizers to select a team for the region to participate in the upcoming National Sports Championship in the Eastern Region which will offer the authorities the opportunity to select athletes team Ghana for the 2023 All African Games to hosted by Ghana in Accra.
In the girls category, Mary Antara Adu and Niyoyiri Dorkpeen both of Bole District finished first and third respectively whiles North Gonja Ruhia Abass came in between the two gallant Bole girls.
Thus, Bole topped the girls ranking with 14 points, followed by her sister district STK with 46 points, North-East Gonja in third with 61 points, North Gonja 78, West Gonja 78 and East Gonja 83 at the bottom.
Meanwhile, in the boys category Bole finished 4th with 62 points behind STK, West Gonja and East Gonja in third, second and first respectively.
However, in the combined ranking Bole secured the top leaving STK in Second. East Gonja finished third whiles the host district West Gonja placed 4th followed by North – East, North Gonja and Central Gonja at 7th position.
In the end four(4) girls of Bole namely : Mary Antara Adu, Niyoyiri Dorkpeen, Yirkaara Gborkor and Norbidteu Perpuo all of Dibouyiri Basic School have been selected into the regional team.
Also, Seidu Iddi of Mandari E/A JHS and Mustpha Malduo of Simariyiri D/A JHS were selected into the Males’ team.
Mr Issahaku Osman, aka Champion, the Sports Organiser of the Makuma Circuit of the Bole District Education Directorate led and coached the athletes with support from Mr Yakubu Mohammed of the District Assembly.
