Gonja Traditional Council mourns the demise of Kusawguwura Samuel Sulemana Kunkraga I of Kusawgu Traditional Area.

The Gonja Traditional Council under the auspices of Yagbon Wura Tuntumba Boresa I, Paramount Chief of the Gonja Kingdom has announced the death of the Paramount Chief for the Kusawgu Traditional Area his Royal Majesty Kusawguwura Samuel Sulemana Kunkraga (I).

A statement issued by the Gonja Traditional Council confirming the demise of the chief reads in part” Seven days mourning has been declared in the entire Kingdom for the sudden demise of Kusawguwura Kunkraga I, the last born of all Paramount chiefs in the Gonja Kingdom”.

The burial ceremony of the late Kusawguwura has been performed today 20th January, 2020 according to the custom and tradition of Gonja, according to the statement issued by the Gonja Traditional Council.

The statement adds that other activities of the funeral will be communicated to all Paromount Chiefs in due course.

“As part of the seven days mourning activities all social media platforms in the Savannah Region such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram have been directed to mourn the late Paramount Chief “.

All Imams in the various palaces in the Gonja Kingdom as part of the mourning activities should pray for the departed soul of the Paramount Chief as we pay traditional courtesies to our palaces on Friday and Monday within this period, the statement added.

His Eminence the Yagbonwura therefore expresses his condolences to the Gonja Traditional Council and the Chieftaincy Institution and pray for the Soul of the late Paramount Chief.
