
The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority, Mr Neequaye Kotey , has cut the sod for the construction of an ultra-modern Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) office at Bole as the Savannah Regional office.
The project, expected to be completed within one year.
The Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority ( DVLA) said, the office, the first of its kind was aimed at streaming driver licensing operations in the country and bring DVLA to the doorsteps of the people.
He said the office would bring sanity in the licensing regime and cut down transportation cost to other regions for vehicles license registrations.
The leadership of Ghana’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) also seized the opportunity and held with stakeholders prsesent on plans to roll out the new vehicle registration number plate.
The engagement forms part of an effort to educate key stakeholders on the features, legal bases, procedures, and justification upon which the new number plate policy is set to start in January 2026.
A deputy director of DVLA in a deep-centred presentation highlighted the distinctive features and security enhancements of the yet-to-be-rolled-out new plates.
He said the new number plates are expected to improve public safety and security while also preventing the registration of stolen vehicles.
“It will also ensure proper identification of vehicle owners and update the database of registered vehicles in Ghana”, he stated.
He said the registration of first-timers (new vehicles) will start in January 2026, with old registration vehicles to be re-registered from June 2026, and is expected to end in December 2027.
The stakeholders, while seeking clarity on certain issues, also gave their inputs for a smooth transition.
Some traditional rulers who participated in the engagement lauded the Authority for coming to their level with the policy and pledged their full support toward the successful rollout
