At the maiden appearance of Savannah Region in the Inter-Region Basic Schools Sports Festival, the boys’ Soccer team beat Eastern Region 5-4 on penalties after 1-1 draw to emerge as Champions.
The Coach Rahman and Coach Aziz led team eliminated Western-North and Ashanti Region in the quarter and semi finals respectively having topped their group.
The performance of the team has surprised many considering how the region faced difficulties before getting to Accra. The team was reduced to 15 players instead of 18. Besides the uncertainty about leaving could have unsettled the team.
The region only went with Soccer boys and girls, volleyball boys and girls and some few athletes for track and field events.
Unfortunately, the region could not progress beyond the group stage in both boys and girls volleyball as well as girls Soccer.
The track and field e events are currently under way
The contingent is expected home on Saturday, September 5th 2026.
