Jilinkon Community was filled with joy admist singing and drumming when they were successfully connected to the National Grid on Thursday 15th June, 2022 at the community school’s park .
The project which was initiated by NORTHCODE GHANA and funded by NEXAM FOUNDATION and constructed by STECO was estimated at amount of over 200,000 Ghana cedis.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Director of NEXAM, said they received the initiative from NORTHCODE GHANA and saw the need to help in connecting the community to the National Grid.
He explained that the project is in two phases including connecting the network dropped down. He however called on the community members to remain calm as technical team will supervise the network dropped down in the coming months.
Assembly member of Jilinkon prayed for the NEXAN FOUNDATION FRANCE and urged the community to accept the project as theirs as they are the direct beneficiaries.
In a speech, on behalf of Jilinkon Wura Diabor Awusi, Mr Mumuni Losina said he is happy they will also be part of the global community with the presence of electricity in the community.
He however expressed his appreciation to NEXAN, Northcode and partners but asked for more in the area of health, education among others.
The Regional Chief Engineer, Mr Francis Yormesor, said they should be wary of illegal connection as it might land them into trouble.
He also said the institution is always around to rectify any electrical challenges so if there is any they should not hesitate to report.
The DCE for the area, Hon. Losina Barkisu said she is happy to be part of such a historic event.
She stated that many more communities are in need of this kind of project and asked the NGO to use the cordial relation they built to support more communities in that regard.
She was thanked the Assembly member for bringing the challenges confronting the project to her table which she said made it realized its completion.
Jilinkon community benefited from the project as a result of Community Resource Management Area (CREMA) and the BEE keeping project in collaboration between NORTCODE, NEXAN, STECO, CFAO and COP.
