Five Markets in the Bole District of the Savannah Region will be closed on Wednesday, April, 1, for a fumigation exercise to guard against the novel coronavirus pandemic’s spread in Ghana.
This is part of the nationwide disinfestation of public spaces to control the virus.
The DCE for the area, madam Veronica Alele Heming confirmed this to Yagbon Radio “Tea cup” host Abdul Fatawu.
She said the decision was in consultation with the market women.
“They have all agreed on Wednesday and I am happy. They all see that there is expediency in the matter and we have to do it quick.
Ahead of the Wednesday fumigation, the Bole District Assembly has already disinfected the Bole central market which the DCE said she was pleased with the outcome.
The affected markets to be disinfected tomorrow includes; Bole Kejetia, Tinga, Banda Nkwanta, Bamboi and Jama.
Ghana’s stand in relation to the COVID- 19 is pegged at 152 confirmed cases with 5 deaths currently.
The virus is spread mainly from between people who are in close contact with one another, that is within about 6 feet, and via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into one’s lungs.
To prevent the spread, the standard recommendations coming from the World Health Organisation and the Ghana Health Service are regular hand washing, covering one’s mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing.
People are also advised to avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
