The former New Patriotic Party Parliamentary candidate for the 2020 general elections of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency and Executive Director of Nasco Feeding Minds, Mr Banasco Seidu Nuhu, is set to deliver over fifty free laptops to tertiary students in his constituency just as he promised a year ago.
Recalled that sometime last year , the former Parliamentary candidate vowed to distribute laptops to tertiary students in his constituency, dubbed “one tertiary student, one laptop project”.
Speaking to Yagbon News on May, 14, 2021, Mr Banasco said that the first set of 50 brand new laptops have arrived awaiting distributing to students.
According to him, he was called upon by the tertiary students in the constituency during the 2020 general elections campaign period where the students demanded for laptops to aid them in their learning admist covid-19 outbreak in the world.
He promised of supporting the students with the laptops when given the nod to represent the constituency as the MP.
He however lost the election and still went ahead to fulfill his campaign promise.
According to him,he is sharing the laptops to ease the burden on students especially in this covid-19 era where students are more into online studies.
He said he wants to encourage the online learning more because we are in a digital world hence sharing the laptops.
“In my quest to improve education and easy learning amongst students in the area a satellite internet was sponsored by CISCO in Spain with Yaclick from Dubai as internet service provider had connected all computer laboratories to Internet established by my NGO and partners from Spain to enable students get access to Internet connectivity to improve in the area of online studies”,he told Yagbon News.
According to him over 300 tertiary students are expected to benefit from the project with 50 students to benefit from the first phase.
The distribution would be done in phases and urged all tertiary students in the constituency to remain calm and wait for the other phases to also receive their laptops, Banasco added.
The selection criteria is ‘water-tight’ to ensure that the laptops are received only by students in tertiary institutions and added that a portable will be given to the students to apply for the laptops to avoid duplication.
According to him the laptops were sponsored by Nasco Feeding Minds and their partners in Spain.
Mr Banasco said it was incumbent to hook onto the virtual space when out of the blue last year Covid-19 appeared and made it clear from day one that tertiary students could no longer go at their own pace as far as the digital transformation race was concerned.
