President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo called on the Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Kingdom Yagbon wura Tuntumba Boresa l, on Sunday, July, 11, as part of his two – day working tour in the Savannah Region.
In a welcome addressed on behalf Yagbon Wura, read by Mr Abutu Kapori, the Registrar to the Gonja Traditional Council, he appealed to the President to establish two Teacher Training colleges of Education which should be located in the Western and Eastern parts of the Region.
He also appealed to the President to consider establishing a university in the Region to help build the human resource capacity of the region and Ghana at large.
Among other things he appealed for included; potable water in Damongo, provision of some major roads in Savannah Region to boost economic activities and the construction of a structure and its axillary projects for the Savannah House of Chiefs.
The overlord expressed his profound gratitude to the president for the creation of the creation of the Region which he said had been long fought for, putting up a 155 battalion in Damongo and the construction of decentralized departments in the Region.
Addressing the chiefs and people at the Jakpa Palace, H. E Nana Addo Akufo Addo said he usually embarked on such tours to see for himself various developmental projects in all the regions and thanked the overload for allowing him into his home.
He reiterated that despite the Former President, John Mahama coming from this Region as his main contender, the Region still raised his seats from one to three for which he was very grateful.
He mentioned the Samuel Jinapo, Clifford Braimah, Albert Diwura among others as people of the region who were given appointments during his first term in office.
He assured the overlord of more appointments despite the appointment of Alhaji Assey, Hon. Jinapor, Clifford Braimah among others into various portfolios.
He said he cut sod for the construction of water system in Damongo but COVID has affected the swift implementation of the project but assured him that first week of August, the contractor will move to site.
He expressed his excitement as the major concern of the region is education and assured of a discussion with education minister to repeat a history of fifty years region of request to realization to fifty years of tertiary education realization.
The president said the House of Chiefs will be constructed very soon.
The President is on a two- day working visit in the Savannah Region and later today will move to Buipe to inaugurate an accident and emergency centre.
On the second day of his working tour, Mr Akufo-Addo will inspect water and road projects at Kpembi and Salaga.
In Salaga, the President will also open AstroTurf and then proceed to inspect the ongoing Bunjai-Fufso road project.
Nana Akufo-Addo will leave the Savannah Region for Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region on Tuesday.
