The National Commission for Civic Education in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District has organised an inter party dialogue on peaceful elections.

As part of preparations towards a peaceful 2024 general election, the commission brought together the inter party Dialogue committee members, electoral commission, security agencies among others to discuss peace as part of preventing and containing violence extremists.

In a welcome address, the Savannah Regional Director for NCCE Mr Zitor called on political parties to maintain the peace before, during and after the elections.

The Director stated that Ghana has gone a long way in maintaining our democracy and it has now become a responsibility of all to maintain it for a peaceful political season.

He buttressed his point by urging everyone to campaign on issues devoid of insult and violence adding that a peaceful co-existence will attract investors to build factories in our region to create jobs for the teeming youth

Addressing participants the Deputy National Director in charge of finance and administration Dr Victor Brobbey said the fact that he has traveled from head office to Sawla underscored the importance of the dialogue .

He said the dialogue is part of the commission activity during election adding that with the benefits from the 9 elections Ghana has held with peaceful transitions we cannot underestimate the peace we are enjoying.

He said we have a lot to be proud of because it is rare in other democracies in Africa to have a peaceful transition.

He said this year’s election is a bit tensed because of the extreme situation in our sub-region mentioning economic conditions and unemployment within the youth as potential fertile grounds for violent extremists to recruit and strike.

He added that during all other elections the two major politicians have never filed candidates from different religious groups.

He said since we don’t have religious violence we must try to maintain that on this very election to maintain the status quo going forward.

During a presentation the District Director for NCCE for Sawla Tuna Kalba urged Ghanaians to leave a peaceful co-existence.

He said the situation in the sub-region is not something good for our peace.

Adding that if the situation escalate we will not have a place to run to for our dear lives.
