The contest for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba constituency secretaryship of the National Democratic Congress is gaining momentum with the declaring of intents by aspiring candidates.

Although there are other positions at stake in the upcoming constituency elections, the one that will be fiercely contested is the constituency secretaryship.

Discussions among supporters of the party in the constituency are mixed.

While some are in favour of the incumbent, Hon.Chorchitey Matthew , others seem to tilt towards a change in the party secretaryship in the constituency.

Some of the party faithful believe that the current secretary has not portrayed himself as a secretary of a political party as big as the NDC.

However, there is another school of thought that contends that the constituency needs someone as strong and unconventional as Hon.Chorchitey Mathew to match the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Hon. Chorchitey speaking to Yagbon News said the NDC could not afford to experiment with a new secretary and, therefore, called on the party faithful to retain him to continue with his work and strategies to ensure that the constituency deliver victory for the party.

Hon Chorchitey who is seeking for the position for the third time called for the strengthening of the foundation of the party, which was the grassroots.

A new entrant into the position ,Mr Thomas Maal-eong, said the battle ahead called for someone with a cool head and maturity to help the party weather the storm and lead it to victory.

He believes in strengthening the party structures, re-energising the party base, promoting unity and working together.

He pledged to work with all members of the party to ensure that it became attractive to the people.
