Three children have been injured with many others rendered homeless after a rainstorm hit Kalba in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

The injured persons have since been treated and discharged at the Kalba health centre which was badly hit by the rainstorm.

The rainstorm which occurred on Saturday evening destroyed houses, stores, the roof of the OPD of the health among others, according to the residents.

Checks by Yagbon News indicate some of the victims were currently perching with family and friends while others were have sought refuge in church buildings.

Some of the victims who spoke to Yagbon News said they have lost virtually all their belongings to the disaster and were now surviving on the benevolence of family and friends.

“We are living in someone’s house because all our things have been destroyed. We don’t know what to do now, so we are appealing to the government and the public to come to our aid”, a victim appealed.

Another victim, also appealed for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other benevolent organisations to come to their aid with some support for them to rebuild.

When contacted, health officials at the facility said the extent of havoc caused by the rainstorm was severe which needed urgent attention.

“In fact, the damage caused by the disaster is not small because most of the houses and structures have been destroyed beyond repairs. So we need support to rebuild those houses” another victim also appealed.

Meanwhile, officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the District at the time of filling this report were yet to visit the community to assess the extent of damage.
