The Executive Director for Jaksally Development Organization, Mr Jeremiah Seidu has said the menace of Fulani herdsmen is the reason most young men prefer wood logging to farming in the Savannah Region.

Mr. Jeremiah who is a Royal from the Bole Traditional Area said the issue of Fulani herds men and their havoc to farmers and their farm lands amounts to unfairness and lack of transparency on the the part of traditional rulers.

Mr. Jeremiah indicated that in Niger, when Fulani herdsmen are to use a particular route to their destination, the opinion leaders are consulted and a fee is paid before they are allowed to pass through that route.

He made these comments on Yagbon Radio “Tea cup ” show with Diwura Abdul-Fataw. on Friday 26th February, 2021.

He called on the youth, land owners, chief and law enforcement agencies to be on the check to control this menace.

Reacting to other jurisdictions where they have a taskforce that deal with such issues, Jeremiah, said it will be possible to solve such issues amicably if traditional authorities institute such taskforce.

He said farming is gradually going down as a results of these fulani herdsmen causing indigenes to felling down of economic and cultural trees to be able to fend for themselves.

“As an indigene you are not suppose to fell Dawawa or Shea trees but today this is what  they are doing hence the reason for the dry nature of our Dams”, said Mr Jeremiah.

He called on all local authorities to help resolve this issue as they have dire consequences.
