The Assembly Member for the Senyeri Electoral Area, Hon. Bakar Abdul-Aziz of the Sawla -Tuna- Kalba District and farmers along the Sanyeri-Gbeniyiri road are appealing to the government to intervene and ensure the completion of an abandoned bridge project on the route.
The Assembly Member says the bridge, which was started in 2022 has since been left unattended, has made movement between Sanyeri, Gbeniyiri and adjoining communities increasingly difficult.
For farmers in the area, the situation is affecting their ability to transport produce from their farms to market centres, with some saying vehicles are unable to reach their farms because of the poor condition of the route.
They said there have been instances where harvested foodstuffs purchased by buyers are left in the bush because the buyers’ vehicles cannot access the farms.
The farmers fear that continued delays in completing the bridge could worsen post-harvest losses and put further pressure on the livelihoods of people who depend on farming and the road for their daily activities.
The Assembly Member,Hon.Aziz , is therefore calling on the relevant authorities to intervene and ensure that the contractor returns to the site to complete the project.
According to him completing the bridge would restore access to farms, ease transportation and support economic activities in the affected communities.
He urged the government to treat the project as a matter of urgency to prevent further losses and improve living conditions for residents who rely on the route.
