
Blue Water Guards in the Sawla -Tuna Kalba District of the Savannah Region are intensifying their crackdown on illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey.
In a recent operation conducted on the Black Volta near the Kpali community, the guards dismantled four Changfan machines and other mining equipment.
The machines were set ablaze to deter future use.
Mr Kipo Elijah Bakr, Deputy Coordinator of the National Security of the Savannah Region, in -charge of intelligence shared in an interview with Yagbon News.
While no arrests were made during this operation, he emphasized the team’s commitment to combating illegal mining consistently.
“ We went to the Black Volta today 10th January,2026 based on an intelligence led operation, Some machines have been burnt and destroyed, ” he explained in an interview.
The Blue Water Guards have pledged to maintain vigilant surveillance and enforcement efforts along the rivers to ensure the preservation of water quality and protect the environment from further harm”, Mr Kipo Elijah Bakr told Yagbon News.
