The Secretary for Education of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS),Mr Gabriel Appiah has strongly condemn the actions of the students involved in a clash and urged both school authorities and law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

The safety and well-being of students are of the utmost importance, and it is disturbing to learn about the presence of weapons on campus.

“I implore the school administration to take immediate action to address the underlying issues that led to this incident and to ensure that students feel safe and supported,” he stated in a statement.

He also called on the Ghana Education Service Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education Ministry of Education to provide guidance and support to the school to prevent such incidents in the future.

As NUGS, we will continue to advocate for the welfare and interests of Ghanaian students.

“Let us work together to create a safe and conducive learning environment for all Ghanaian students”, he added.

Background.

Authorities have apprehended 20 students following a violent altercation at Salaga Senior High School (SHS) in the Savannah Region. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, February 4, left one individual with serious injuries.

Reports indicate that the confrontation stemmed from a disagreement between two students during an entertainment program on February 1 but later escalated, drawing in groups from Kpembe and Salaga, ultimately leading to the violent clash.

Seventeen of the detained students have been released on bail under the condition that they report to the police at scheduled intervals. However, three remain in custody and are expected to face legal proceedings.

Law enforcement officers responding to the disturbance recovered a locally manufactured firearm.

To address the situation, a seven-member committee has been established to investigate the root cause of the clash and provide recommendations to prevent future incidents.
