Agents of the New Patriotic Party at the Jama new town registration centre on Monday, August 3, 2020, challenged the eligibility of over 70 potential registrants who reported to register.
The agents alleged that the applicants were not residents of the Jama electoral area.
They claimed that, the applicants , though Ghanaians settled across the river which does not fall under the Jama electoral area and hence cannot have their names registered in the Jama electoral area.
The matter has since been brought before the the District review committee which is mandated by the EC in resolving all challenges of the exercise in every district across the country.
The district review committee after interrogating the applicants have dispatched a team to Jama to find out from the Jama chief whether the applicants are residents of his area or not.
However some of the applicants told Yagbon News that they are surprised with the treatment that is meted out on them as they they argued that, they participated in the 2019 District Assembly elections of which the Assembly Member is aware.
Why didn’t they stopped us at that time? One of the them bemoaned.
“I have a house at Jama and I stay at Jama and today am told I can’t register for my voter’s ID card in Jama, this is not fair”, one the applicants lamented.
