A Youth group calling itself the Active Youth in Mandari ,in the Bole District have petitioned President Mahama for urgent intervention to address , weak healthcare services and worsening unsafe drinking water, warning that years of underdevelopment were placing lives and livelihoods at risk.
The petition, by the Active youth of Mandari appealed for government action on the lack of their basic needs in the community.
“We gather not out of preference for demonstration, but out of necessity and concern for the welfare and future of our community,” the group said .
The group said after 33 years of consistently supporting the National Democratic Congress (NDC), residents of Mandari have little to show for their loyalty.
In a petition dated June 2, 2025, the group appealed to President Mahama, citing severe infrastructure deficits and what they describe as long-standing neglect.
One of the major concerns is healthcare, is that the community lacks a functional health facility, forcing men, women, children, and maternity patients to share a single ward. Residents say the situation undermines their dignity and privacy.
The D/A Basic School they said operates in dilapidated buildings, while the community has no Senior High School or TVET centre, as a result, many young people are unable to continue their education.
The petition also highlights high youth unemployment and limited opportunities for women, who lack access to skills training and start-up support.
The youth group further complained about poor infrastructure. Large sections of Mandari remain without electricity and street lighting. Bad roads often cut the community off during the rainy season, while many households rely on unsafe water sources.
The community insists it is not asking for favours but demanding its constitutional right to basic social amenities.
“We have waited through multiple administrations, supported the NDC in overwhelming numbers, and continued to believe in the promise of a better tomorrow,” the petition states.
Among their key demands are the upgrade of the health center to a polyclinic, construction of new school facilities, establishment of a Senior High School or TVET centre, electricity expansion, streetlights, road rehabilitation, and boreholes for potable water.
The youth group led by Issifu Ali called on the government, the Member of Parliament, and the District Chief Executive to respond to the needs of the people.
The youth group said they remain open to dialogue but want urgent and concrete action to address their concerns.
