The Savannah Regional Basic Schools Boys’ Soccer Team has received a timely boost at the ongoing 35th National Basic Schools Inter-Regional Sports Competition in Accra.

The national competition, currently underway at the University of Ghana, Legon, has brought together all 16 regions of Ghana to compete in various sporting disciplines.

Savannah Region has enjoyed an impressive campaign in the Boys’ Soccer competition, recording consecutive 2–0 victories over Ashanti Region and Western Region in the group stage to finish top of Group B and secure qualification to the quarter-finals.

The team will face Western North Region in the quarter-finals on Monday, 31st August 2026, at the University of Ghana Sports Oval, as they continue their quest for national glory.

Following the team’s impressive performances, renowned young football administrator and proud son of the Savannah Region, Stephen Puro Jnr, extended his support to the team by donating bags of sachet water, bottled water, soft drinks and a box of Kivo Gari.

The donation was presented to the technical team, led by Head Coach Alhassan Rahman Nyariba, and the playing body at the boys’ camp at PRESEC-Legon on Sunday, 30th August 2026.

The gesture provided another source of motivation for the young players and technical team ahead of their crucial quarter-final encounter.

Stephen Puro Jnr has considerable experience in football administration, having previously served as CEO of Techiman Eleven Wonders and Wa Power FC. He currently serves as CEO of Division One side Nukunu Football Club in the Volta Region.

The Savannah Regional team expressed its appreciation to Stephen Puro Jnr for the timely gesture and called on individuals, corporate bodies, football administrators and other well-meaning sons and daughters of the Savannah Region to continue supporting and motivating the team as it seeks to make the region proud on the national stage.

The soccer boys later eliminated West-North Region 3-2 on penalties after two all draw to advance to the Semi-final stage.
