A youth group in Gonjaland called United For Purpose In Gonjaland (UFPG) on Saturday 20th July 2024 organized a Press Conference in Damongo at the Damongo community center.

Speaking at the press conference the leader of the youth group, Yussif Seidu Arimiyaw stated that the leadership and members of UFPG intend to hold a peaceful demonstration on Sunday, 21st July, 2024, and the demonstration is in response to the troubling trend they have observed where politicians use our sacred palaces for their personal and partisan interests.

Mr. Arimiyaw added that the demonstration is instigated by the recent activities of some partisan decoys parading themselves around our chiefs and palaces and irresponsibly using the palaces for their selfish and dangerous political advantage.

Again the leader mentioned that recently they have seen some partisan political actors masquerading as individuals at the palaces using the name of our chiefs to attack their political opponents.

Seidu Arimiyaw noted that the issue of Damongo chieftaincy has been in existence since the demise of the late
paramount chief of Damongo, Damongowura Jakpa Lermu Tumtumba in 2016.

“And only for desperate politicians without campaign message to resort to the Damongo chieftaincy issues to
attack the personality of the venerable hardworking Member of Parliament for the Damongo constituency cum Land and Natural Resources Minister Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor” he said.

Leader of the group added that region for the past 3 years is seeing massive development most particularly here in
Damongo and we cannot allow any desperate politician to jeopardize the efforts the government and
Lawyer Abu Jinapor, MP for Damongo.

And so any politician who is aiming at winning an election should focus on issues base politics and not to resort to name calling, chieftaincy and tribal
issues for their political gains.

So the will urge every Gonjalander to advise any politician who
comes to seek their vote to speak on bread and butter and not on petty issues.

The three main points raised during the press conference are Political Interference in Chieftaincy Affairs, Rise of “Chieftaincypreneurs” and Commitment to Youth Development.
