Ghanaian goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu has added another major accolade to his career after being named the *Ethiopian Premier League Goalkeeper of the Year* for the 2025/26 season.
The award comes on the back of an outstanding campaign with Negelle Arsi FC, where the former Bechem United man was a key figure between the sticks.
Iddrisu featured in 37 league matches for Negelle Arsi, keeping 17 clean sheets and conceding just 26 goals all season. His composure and leadership were also evident — he picked up only 1 yellow card and even registered 1 assist from the back.
The numbers underline why he stood out in one of East Africa’s most competitive leagues and why club fans voted him their safest pair of hands.
This is not the first time Iddrisu has dominated domestically.
During the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season with Bechem United, he kept 18 clean sheets, establishing himself as one of the GPL’s most reliable goalkeepers. That form earned him a move abroad, and he has since taken his experience to Ethiopia.
Iddrisu’s award is the latest example of Ghanaian players making an impact outside the country. His discipline, shot-stopping, and calmness under pressure have made him a fan favorite in Ethiopia and a proud export for Ghanaian football.
For now, Iddrisu can celebrate a well-deserved individual honor — and Negelle Arsi FC can celebrate having one of the league’s best.
