A non-governmental organization, North code-Ghana, in collaboration with NCCE has organised a community forum on peace and security in the face of violence extremism at Mandari in the Bole District of the Savannah Region.
The project dubbed reducing mining induced vulnerabilities to radicalization and infiltration by violence extremist organization in the Bole District was on the theme strengthening grassroot capacity for peace building and prevention of violence violence extremist.
Addressing participants at the forum a technical lead person at NorthCode, Mr Dakurgu Andrew said the absence of government support in remote areas of our country is actually a threat to our peace.
He retraited that there are communities in Bole District in without a teacher or nurse talking less of a security personal.
According to Mr Andrew his research indicates that there is fear among the people because of the activities of illegal mining.
Mr Dakurgu said friends in neighboring countries have confirmed the activities of these extremists in the border communities which is actually a serious issue.
He again said one of the biggest threats to security is lack of communication network connectivity in border communities meaning if anything is about to happen in these communities it would have happened before the security agencies will notice.
Again Mr Dakurgu said people should always make sure to maintain the peace they are enjoying.
He said if there happen to be conflict, other people will infiltrate the area citting Bawku case as an example.
And due to the Gold deposit people as far as you can think of are trooping in the Bole area adding that due to the war in Ivory cost there are influx of weapons.
Mrs Kolan Margret , the Bole District NCCE Director, said no one is born violent. So the reason to boast that Ghana is a peaceful country doesn’t mean we should let our guards down. Saying that we should remember that countries that are suffering from violent extremism and conflicts were also peaceful.
She then said certain factors cause these conflicts including lack of respect for minority groups, religious and political intolerance , chieftancy among others.
She said another serious factor is mistrust of security agencies,explaining that citizens are not ready to report issues to the security agencies which is a very bad development in our security existence.
The NCCE Director urges citizens to avoid unnecessary rivery to maintain a peaceful coexistence.
Speaking to Yagbon News, the Assembly member of the area Hon Memunatu Mahama said the activity has come at the right time due to the current global threat of violent extremist.
In addition ,she said Mandari is a border community that expose it to the dangers of violence extremist adding that the stories in border countries in West Africa is scary.
Hon Memunatu urged the people of Mandari not to let their guards down but continue to be vigilant in area for peaceful coexistence.
