The Overlord of the Gonja Traditional Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yagbon wura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) has celebrated his maiden Damba at Damongo on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 on the theme “Fostering Unity Through Culture and Tradition: The Role of Chiefs in the Savannah Region”.
In a welcome address read by Mandariwura Gilbert Seidu Iddi on behalf of the King , said Damba promotes unity, love, peace and development of the kingdom, and that it consciously provides an opportunity for eco- tourism.
Yagbonwura added that the vast tourism opportunities of the Savannah region, such as Game and wild-life of the Mole Game reserve, architecture of the ancient Mosque, mystic stone and a myriad of other opportunities captured within the ecological space when well harness is a immense commercial value.
The King of Gonja commended the IGP for elevating the Bole Police Command to a Divisional command status.
Yagbonwura also made an appeal to the government to work on Kusawku through Chama to Tuluwe stretch of road , which is a distance of about 60km without a police presence, so I will be glad if the IGP gives that stretch the utmost attention it deserves to establish police visibility and indeed a police post in that stretch to enhance the security in the area.
Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto also made a passionate appeal to the government that the Savannah region needs additional Municipal and District Assemblies to be created, this request is necessary because of its landmass .
“So if this these Municipal and District Assemblies are created the issue of overseas in the homogeneous Gonja Kingdom will be a thing of the past and it will boost investment, create easy access to market and overall businesses in the region” he said.
Lastly the King said that he is proposing a face lift to the Yagbon palace ,the soul of the pride as a Kingdom and at the appropriate time will be reaching out to all the sons and daughters for their inputs.
Present at the Jakpa palace was Chiefs and Queen mothers, MP’s, DCE’s, Government appointees and sons and daughters of Gonjaland.
