Former President and leader of the biggest opposition political party in Ghana (NDC), John Mahama has expressed his disgust over the manner in which shea trees and other cash crops are being destroyed in Gonjaland, all in the name of making money.
He made this remarks during this year’s Yagbonwura Damba celebration in Damongo at the Jakpa palace on Tuesday 3rd October 2023.
The theme for this year’s Damba is “Fostering Unity Through Culture and Tradition: The Role of Chiefs in the Savannah Region”.
The former President also charged the Yagbonwura and all Gonjas to adhere to the core principles of nature and endeavor to keep our environment and trees in a stable nature.
He has therefore proposed that, by-laws be established to maintain a more sustainable environment in the Savannah region.
Present at the Jakpa palace were Chiefs and Queen mothers, MP’s, DCE’s, Government appointees and sons and daughters of Gonjaland.
