The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has on Friday, November 27, 2020 conducted a debate session for parliamentary candidates in the Sawla-Tuna- Kalba Constituency.

The debate session, which was a panel discussion on the thematic areas of Health, Education and Employment, had candidates of the National Democratic party (NDP) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) participating.

The aim of the debate was to create a platform for the aspiring parliamentary candidates to enable them solicit commitments from people.

This would ensure peaceful and non-violent elections and prepare the minds of the constituents based on a number of issues.

Speaking at the event Mr. Yakubu Ibrahim of the NDP said these activities by NCCE create unity among the aspirants and their supporters.

On the chances of the NDP Mr Ibrahim said Ghanaians have seen how the NDC and NPP have turn this country into a football throwing at each other and hence the NDP has a greater chance of winning the election.

Mr. Banasco Seidu Nuhu said NCCE is a constitutional mandated institution and if they organised such a program, is a call in the right direction.

He said through the programme people are enlightened and have come to understand that election is not about insults and names calling .

I know this will make a lot of impact on this election, Banasco noted.

Mr. Issahaku Lonsina, the NCCE Director for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District said the will of the people is exercised on democracy so is on this bed rock that aspirant who seek mandate of the people are made to make commitment on what they will do with the power given to them.

He said there is no loser and winner to be determined on December 7 as he pleaded with the constituents to exercise their franchise peacefully on the day of elections.

The two parliamentary candidates thus; NDP and NPP pledged to peace before during and after the elections.

The NDC parliamentary candidate and incumbent Member of Parliament of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey was however absent at the programme.
