The Member of Parliament (MP), for the Sawla- Tuna-Kalba constituency in the Savannah Region, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, has presented a bicycle to a pupil of Kawie JHS to facilitate her movement after she treks several kilometers to school everyday.
The girl have to walk several kilometers to school everyday day, a situation that is negatively affecting her academic performance.
According to Hon.Andrew, enhancing education in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District is very key to him, so the plight of the young girl who walks 7 kilometers from Tumokoraa to Kawie to attend JHS caught his attention.
Announcing this on his Facebook wall, the MP stated that on his rounds he spotted a young lady by by name Janet Yeryontey from Tumokoraa who travels on foot to Kawie on daily basis to attend school.
According to the MP, the girl is in JHS 2 and the only person from her community currently in JHS.
“She walks a distance of 7 kilometers alone to get to school and having been touched by her plight I presented a bicycle to her through my constituency chairman to ease her movement”, said the MP.
Hon. Andrew also pledge to support the young lady should she make it to SHS.
He added that his constituency chairman, Alhaji Osman also added a sum of money for to get a school uniform.
